You bought Wix. You bought Weebly. You even bought WordPress. Now what?
Well, aside from not creating a business card out of your website… there are some pretty important things you need to know about being found on the internet. Google is not the only search engine, but it is certainly the biggest and most recognizable of them all and has created the standard of how your website should be designed in order to be found by your consumer base and readers.
As a general rule, most consumers stick to the first page of Google to find what they are looking for. Most people never visit the next few pages, so if your website isn’t showing up on the first page, your readers and customers are shopping with your competitors.
With that said, there are 5 website hacks that are sure to get you onto Google’s 1st page.
Keywords are the words and phrases people most commonly search for. Google has cornered the market on finding the keywords that people search for most frequently. As a matter of fact, all you have to do is start typing any word or phrase into the search bar and the search engine will tell you all of the most searched for words and phrases that millions and millions of people have looked for. Keywords are a must to rank your website because those words and phrases are what people really want.
SEO or Search Engine Optimization is crucial to getting ranked. It has many layers, so beware of frauds that will sell you on the most minute SEO changes that don’t get you ranked, that aren’t maintained on a regular basis, and are something you could do with minimal website knowledge yourself. Real SEO has a monthly budget and is maintained by a real person. It isn’t a set-it-and-forget-it technique and requires skill.
For Google, content is king and quality content will keep your readers engaged and keep views on your website longer. The longer a person is engaged on your website, the more traffic you will receive. Give you readers value and search engines will recognize that your content is unique, helping you to get indexed. Your indexed website is now searchable, and that’s a key factor to helping your customer base grow.
Websites that have been around a while and have great content are sought after for their viewers. If a website has a decent amount of viewers, those viewers are open to looking at other websites that are linked to it. You can ask the owner of one of these websites to post some information about your business with your link, and that link will “link back” (or backlink) to your website, giving your website some of the older website’s power. Backlinks are a great way to grow your readers too.
5. Google Maps!
If you’re a local business, getting found in the map pack on Google allows people looking for your service to find you in the area, get directions, and look at your website to learn more about your services. Showing up on the first page is great, and if you can show up in the map too, that’s even better.
